Snag your readers’ attention and hold on to it page after page. Keep them engaged with your book – even when their internet-conditioned brain tempts them to check out after a paragraph.
Learn how to prune your prose of interesting-but-irrelevant details, how to incorporate white space, and how to trim an expanding middle. Communicate facts through vivid word pictures and choose the compelling word over the pedestrian one. Connect with your reader through authenticity and transparency.
Students will do short writing assignments in this interactive class and will be invited to submit up to 500 words for post-class review by the instructor.

Writing True Stories–You Can’t Make This Stuff Up
IN PERSON
Practice writing different forms of creative nonfiction, from flash nonfiction to personal essays or chapters for memoirs in progress. In-class writing exercises will sharpen skills in pacing, clarity, dialogue, world-building, and tone, and help you write in a way that holds a reader’s interest to the very end. We’ll talk about the challenges of writing about real people and the joys and pitfalls of fictionalizing true stories.
